Mr D. Miller 2nd Dan
I began my martial arts training in 1986, in a style of full contact Karate. After the instructor started bragging that this was the hardest form of Karate and the only martial art that surpassed it was Taekwon-do, I began a search for this unheard of martial art. Unable to find a taekwon-do instructor I drifted into western boxing. Eventually I was able to find a Taekwon-do class in the summer of 1991 and it was then that I became totally obsessed with martial arts. I would train at every opportunity, twice a week at Crowborough, twice a week at Hailsham, twice a week at East Grinstead and sometimes travelling to Crawley on a Saturday as well. I achieved my black belt in 1994, shortly after I took over the Crowborough and Red Hill classes and then expanded further into private schools, even teaching blind students at Red Hill. I eventually gifted my shares in the schools to Mr Phillip Lear, allowing him to achieve his ambition of being a full time instructor. After I achieved my 2nd degree black belt I took a break from Taekwon-do, returning in 2002. I now teach in Eastbourne and the surrounding areas in a friendly but disciplined classes, with the support of my partner Courteney. I wish to mention the help and support I have received from my instructor, Mr Howard Mayes, whom has shown perseverance and indomitable spirit beyond anyone else I have met within martial arts.
